Cross Lake

Saturday, June 20th  2009

Our tournament committee this year decided to add this lake to our rotation.  The Cross Lake Marina, which had been closed for the last few years, is now open and ready for business.

Boats are getting in the water.

Dike Hyde and partner leave launch site.

Today was a "miserable" day, if you are doing anything except fishing. Rain, rain and more rain.  But us fishermen love the rain because fish normally bite in the rain.

Tom Hudson and Shawn Smith somewhere in the lake.

Chad Acome and Tom Zedick are there also.

With the heavy rain the last three days, the water had turned muddy in many places making the bass harder to catch in those places.

Kevin Haley shows off his big bass for the day, a 3.62 pound largemouth.

Knowing that there would be many boats on the water, we all spread out to lesser fished spots that we all know in hopes to find some fish that had not been "stuck".

Jack Wilson II and Tom Church.

Fred Chilluffo and T.J. Church.

We returned to the marina at 1:00 p.m. and started the weight-in.

The boats are out and ready for weigh-in.

The tournament committee is set up and ready for fish.

Fish start to arrive at the scales.

Tom Church wins the "Just out of the money" award, a new IM-8 rod, sponsored by Bass Pro     This award was given by Ron VanBenschoten from Bass Pro.

Bass Pro has generously donated a $25 gift card for the "Lunker" award. Dave Donhauser wins this award this week with a 5.00 pound largemouth bass.

Dave and his Big Bass for the day.  A 5.00 pound largemouth.

Chris Cartwright, Dick Hyde and Tom Church all tie for 4th place.

Unusual, because we weigh our fish on a digital scale, but we had a 3 way tie for 4th place.  All three caught 5 bass and they all weighed in 9.75 pounds.  All three will receive 27 points for 4th place.

Joe Valerio takes 3rd place with 10.56 pounds

2nd place goes to Ron "V" with 11.65 pounds.

1st place goes too Connell Raate with 12.49 pounds.

Connell Raate is the winner.

Congratulations Connell.  This proves that even a blind squirrel can find an acorn now and then.

How did Connell do it?

He worked the shore line all along the west end of the lake in 5' of water with a Gambler "Senko" style worm, green pumpkin color that he rigged on a Mustad 3/0 hook, weed less style.
