2012 Fish line Recycling Program Continues

Our members for the 3rd year in a row, continued with their conservation efforts.  We partnered with Boat/US and sponsors of our club and placed fish line recycling tubes at various fishing and boat launch locations.

With 18 fish line recycling tubes placed through out the central New York area, members collected 3 lbs. and 15 oz. of fish line.

3 lbs. and 15 oz. of fish line.

Although the weigh does not appear to be much, if you look at the volume of fish line that was collected, it speaks volumes.  A 1 lb. roll of 10 lb. fish line contains 10,000 yards.

The fish line which is collected is then sent to Berkley (a manufacture of fishing line) who in turns processes the line and turns it into structures that can be placed into the water to help fish thrive.

It takes 500 years for fish line to break down on it’s own in the environment.  Besides removing the fish line, members picked up countless recyclables at these sites, along with over 80 bags of trash which was disposed of properly during the year.
