Oswego River

Sunday, July 18th  2005

Blast off time was 5:30 am. It was just a great day, no wind, but hot. The boats dispersed up and down the river and began catching fish on the very first casts. Just at first light, the fish were right on the shoreline. Any surface lure worked within a few feet of shore caught fish, and started to fill live wells.

Later in the day, some fish moved deeper, and some moved in under the "mats".  Around 8:00 am, the canal system opened the dams upstream and the current picked up on the river.

At noon, all boats returned to the "stop 28" launch site and began to dewater.

Big Bass for today went to Chris French with a 4.95 pound bass.

We had a un-fortunate incident. One of our members, Eric Wilsey currently in first place, lost track of his count and returned to the weigh-in with 6 fish. When he realized his mistake, he told the tournament committee, and his weight was disqualified. Too bad, because he did have five fish that weighted in at 14.75 pounds good enough for second place. All fish were returned alive.

How did Jake do it?

Jake moved in to work the "mats" from just after light and stayed there all day.

He worked this brown frog over the mats, and ended up culling many fish.
