Onondaga Lake

Sunday, June 26th  2005

We have been in a heat wave for two weeks now. Today was the 9th day this month with temperatures over 90 degrees. The lake was flat, and the sun was high.

Blast off was at 6 am. The launch can handle two boats at a time so we were in the water quite fast.

I catch Ryan Smith in the outlet

There is no place sacred. Jack Loughrey catches Tom Hudson and Brooks Wright on the river.

All the boats dispersed quickly, and besides the lake, we had the whole river system to fish, all the way from Baldwinsville, to Lock 23 and Phoenix. The photo boat did not have time to catch up to all the boats so we only have one picture of boats on the water this week.

At noon, everyone returned to the Onondaga Lake Marina and we started weigh-in.

Weigh master Jack Laughrey and his helpers wait for the fish to come.

Our club respects the bass, and we handle them gently during weigh-in and during release. Notice that we have buckets filled with water to hold the fish that are waiting to be weighed.

Bags of fish start coming to the scale.

We weigh our fish a certified digital scales, down to 100th of a ounce.

Our scale

Congratulations Dick Hyde

Richard Hyde took first place with 5 bass weighing 14.16 pounds

Dick show off two of his 5 fish.

Second place went to non-boater, Eric Wilsey with 5 bass weighing 12.04 pounds

Eric shows off one of his fish.

Third place went to Larry LaClair with 5 fish weighing 11.96 pounds, Fourth Place went to Ryan Smith with 5 fish weighing 11.03 pounds and Fifth Place went to Jack Loughrey with 4 fish weighing 9.53 pounds.

President, Tom Hudson took big bass for the day with a beautiful largemouth that weighed in at 4.92 pounds.

Tom Hudson shows off his Big Bass for the day, a 4.92 pounder.

Bass Pro shop in Auburn very generously donated a bag of tackle for the first member just out of the money. This week it went to Connell Raate.

Connell is happy to get the package of tackle.

Now, how did Dick Hyde win the tournament. He used a "Lucky Craft" Sammy, and a "Strike King" bleeding bait spinner bait. He was working just outside of the weeds along the lake out to 15" of water. Dick works at the tackle department at Bass Pro in Auburn, so the next time you are in the store, ask him to show you the baits.

Notice, that he also had a "stinger hook" on the spinner bait. Be sure to ask him about that also.
