Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
"BassEye" Challenge
June 26th 2008
Our club was asked to be the "shore crew" for the first, and hopefully annual,
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation "BassEye" fishing challenge which was held on Oneida
Lake this date.
Our club representatives were
responsible for helping the boaters get their boats in and out of the water,
make sure the participants as they arrived were signed in, and organized the boaters and
most importantly making sure that everyone made it off the water.
Although the day stared out
with a little rain, the sun came out shortly after launch and it turned out to
be a splendid day.
At the end of the day, we were responsible
for collecting all of the measurements (this was a measure and release
competition, paper tournament) and rank the "captains" and their "non-boaters"
into 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and lunker for bass and walleye.
Our club received a lot of favorable comments.
Also representing our club, was Dick Hyde who donated his boat and had a couple
of novices in his boat. He spent his day teaching them how to bass fish, still
Dick came back with a smile on his face.
Club member,
Ron VanBenschoten, hitched a ride with the Bass Pro/Tundra sponsor
boat, with Bob Ryan on board and piloted by George Fiorille. Although their trolling motor broke,
they still managed too
end up in 3rd place.
In all approx. $ 9 - $ 10,000 was raised.
This was the first event like this for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and most
likely will be done on an annual event.
